GiVeAwAy DaY!

Welcome Giveaway Friends! The first year I entered the giveaways at Sew Mama Sew's Giveaway day I ended up winning like three or four giveaways! Sooo now I am joining the fun from the other end and giving away some yummy fabric. These pieces are more or less 1/3 yard cuts. (The red is a FQ).

I'm giving two chances to win this stack...

QUILTING GALS: Can you answer my question? My grandmother gave me this old lace and I've had it for awhile now and there are these horrid spots forming on them...Do you have any ideas how to stop this and how to remove it from this delicate antique lace?
In other news, I am moving so I have set up my sewing kit to be handy even in the move.
I mean just because I won't have a room dedicated for sewing, a kitchen or bathroom all unpacked and ready to go a girl still has to sew right??;)

    I have the TV on while I sew. I rent series from the library. It is a great way to watch shows I never got to see.

    Oh, that beautiful lace! Gosh, I don't know. I always call my grandma when I'm dealing with stains. Somehow, I want to say baking soda, but dont take me too seriously and try it without someone backing that up.
    I'm an iHeart radio fan. No commercials, and I dont have to keep resetting a CD.

    That's gorgeous! I love the light purple/pink print that almost looks like diamonds/peacock feathers.

    I usually sew in the quiet, or I have more recently been putting on Pride & Prejudice or Firefly. It has to be something I've seen a million times, otherwise I will stop and watch!

    I love to sew to the sound of a sleeping child---unfortunatly, my preschooler grew out of naps this spring!

    One quilter friend suggested lemon juice and sunshine for whitening old delicates. good luck!

    I heard from Imagine Gnats that if you wash it in a solution of lemon juice and then let it dry in the sun you can clean vintage spots?

    I've recently started sewing to audio books. I find I just tune the TV out, and the books make long hours of quilting seem to go by a little faster!

    If I'm in the sewing room/office, nothing but me and what I'm working on. If I'm finishing up some binding or cross-stitching I do that in front of the tv (I like watching Game of Thrones, season 2 right now).

    I usually sew with digital radio on, BBC Radio 4 Extra - it does quizes, comedys, dramas, plays, stand up etc. Engrossing but not distracting!

    i like to sew to music! something peppy usually, but if it's a calmer time i'll go for a movie soundtrack, like inception or star trek. instrumental but still epic.

    Pandora is my BFF when it comes to quilting - I only discovered it less than a year ago, but I have it on constantly. It is so great to program a couple of favorites, and then it finds others that you usually love! Sorry I can't help you with those spots....

    I generally sew in silence, which is lovely with two kids under 3. Either that or I sew with truck noises, kid chatter, toys crashing, baby coos, you know, whatever. Depends on the project. :)

    Here are some great tips for cleaning the lace... good luck! And if all else fails, you can always dye it with tea to keep it natural. Or some fabulous colors that Rit Dye offers!

    Sometimes and don't listen to anything and sometimes, I listen to TV shows on my computer (Grey's Anatomy, Nikita, Homeland, etc.).

    As for the stain, try water and then rub some salt on it and put it in the sun to dry. Then wash it on gentle.

    we just got an Ipad and i love listening to Pandora...usually set it to Mumford and Sons and listen for hours...if not that, then i listen to books on cd...i do like a little something in the background...thanks for a chance...

    I watch a lot of dvd's. Usually something I've watched a zillion times, otherwise I'll get distracted by the show instead of sewing. The Simpsons, Futurama, Firefly, the Pirates movies, Disney cartoons are all on regular rotation in my sewing room dvd player. :)

    As far as the lace. First, it's gorgeous! Second, I'd try Soak. It's a very delicate washing agent that knitters use for their handknits. I haven't tried it yet because I can't find it locally, but I've heard many goods things from several friends. Good luck!

    I use to sew in front of the tv but now it's no longer in my sewing room. I now listen to podcasts which keep my brain occupied but are better than the tv because there's nothing to distract my eyes. It works well!

    The spots just show up with storage. I wash old linens and cottons first in a gentle detergent. Sometimes that's enough. If not, a good long soak in water with very diluted bleach and some time out in sunshine usually do it. You can prevent this by airing out and washing occasionally. Which requires more dedication than I have, apparently. Good luck.

    stains.....on lace....I have never had that issue, but my son just spilled kool aid all over a white shirt and I would swear by oxyclean.
    If you don't want to wash it, maybe try a tide pen?

    I have a few ideas for your lace issue. First and most mild, try luke-warm water in a bowl, with several teaspoons of baking soda dissolved in it. Soak the lace for a half hour or so, then rinse in clear cool water and air dry until almost dry, then press with a warm iron (not hot)just to flatten it out. If that doesn't work, try the same thing only using Oxi-clean. And it THAT doesn't work, try dipping in half water, half lemon juice, and laying it out on a clean white plate or platter (depending on how big it is) in direct sunlight for a few hours, at the top of the day (brightest sun). When the spots fade, rinse and dry as described earlier. Those are the ways I've cleaned up old lace in the past :)

    I like to listen to Pandora so I can enjoy new artists.
    I believe that is rust on your fabric which is usually removed with lemon and sunlight--but I think only do that on the white piece. Not sure about the other but you could tea stain it back if the lemon/sunlight lightens it too much.
